Members ~ Introducing Nancy!
Q. Introduce yourself - name, nickname, where you were born, how old you are, where you live, what your job is or what you study
A. My is Nancy. I’ve been nicknamed Ms Ice by people who didn’t like me but it didn’t really catch on with my friends, so I’m open to suggestions.
I was born in Schoenebeck, East Germany, which you’ve probably never heard off. I’ve mainly lived in Calbe, even smaller, moving to Magdeburg and later Leipzig - finally something you may know! I’m 29 and intend to remain that age for the next 100 years. In 2003 I’ve moved to London and, surprisingly, I’m still here. I work as a Research PA at Queen Mary University. Basically my job is to make sure my bosses get their research funded and have an audience to hear, see or read about their results.
Q. What do you do in your spare time? What are you passionate about?
A. I love going out, dancing mainly. I’ve tried a few martial arts because I love martial art movies. I’m passionate about preserving an alternative lifestyle against the odds.
Q. What is you most treasured possession?
A. memories
Q. Which living person would you most like to meet?
A. Jackie Chan
Q. Name your top three bands.
A.The Cure, Def Leppard, U2
Q. Name your top three movies.
A. The Matrix, Kill Bill, The Crow (I’m a non-violent person – honest!)
Q. What is the most important book you have read? (can be non-vampire)
A. Probably Umberto Eco ‘The Name of the Rose’. Though I’ve recently re-read it and discovered it had a lot more sex than I’d expected, being set in an abbey, I would seem this was lost on me at 16.
Q. Which is your favourite horror/vampire book?
A. Interview with the Vampire; when Anne Rice was still a good read
Q. Do you think vampires are real? Explain
A. I think the belief in vampires is too widespread around the world not to have some truth in it. By that I don’t mean the ‘rational’ explanations of premature burials and such like. I believe deep down at the bottom of the myth is the original vampire and that’s real. There just are too many myths and legends obscuring the view.
Q. What were your reasons for joining the London Vampyre Group? What do you want to get out of being a member?
A. I was very involved with the German goth scene and miss the kind of homeliness this provided. I’m glad about having met friendly, likeminded people and look forward to meeting more of them. Also, I’d like to share my knowledge on literary and folkloric vampire ladies. I hope this will be an interesting contribution to the group.
Q. What is your favourite word?
A. I don’t think I can name just one. There are a few that keep popping up in my poems, such as emptiness, desire, lost, yearning, or their German equivalents.
Q. What is your greatest fear?
A. Fear can be used against you, so I’d rather keep it to myself.
Q. What is the most important thing life has taught you?
A. You have to make demands if you want to get anything. Doesn’t stop you being a nice person though.
Q. Give a song lyric/quote from a film or person or a passage/sentence from a book that you feel embodies your approach to life
A. The most beautiful thing feet can do is dancing! (This is from a German kid’s TV show and reserved for the more positive moods.) Other than that my usual quote is ‘Life sucks and people are horrible.’ I don’t think I’m the first person to say this but I really don’t know where it comes from.
Q. Do you have a livejournal or personal webpage that we can link to?
A. Nope. I’m old-fashioned and believe in paper journals.
